Dentist-geriatrics
The differentiation course Dentist-geriatrics is a 3-year course at the BT-Academy.
The Dentist-geriatrics course consists of several training modules. In addition, there are several supervisory meetings during which specific cases and video recordings will be discussed (4 per year). It now also includes master classes with prominent guest speakers and presentations by students. The individual modules and master classes can also be attended by other interested individuals, such as dentists, dental hygienists and dental technicians. The students are expected to spend at least 1 day per week working with frail older people and 1 half day a week on average studying theory. More information is available at www.bt-academy.nl.
The master class “Gerodontologie” (Geriatric dentistry) is a good alternative to the differentiation course. This class is condensed into a 3-day course. The groups are always small, so that there can be a thorough discussion of cases and relevant literature and students can exchange experience. At the request of many students, the class will be taught in groups that include dental hygienists and (clinical) dental technicians. TGe registration
The NVGd (Dutch Association for Gerodontology) has created a system for the accreditation of dentists-geriatric and dental hygienists-geriatric. The eventual registration as dentist-geriatrics follows a set procedure. You are required to submit a portfolio that includes your motivation, attitude and case descriptions. The requirements for the initial registration and re-registration are included in the following documents:
- regulations dentist-geriatrics (valid until the end of 2020)
- regulations dentist-geriatrics (valid from 2021)
- Information about the registration application TGe and MhGe (2017)
